While 27 other states have expanded access to Medicaid, NC is moving backwards to further restrict access to health care. On Friday, the NC Senate passed their budget for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, 2014. The Senate budget would make major changes to the states Medicaid eligibility guidelines and cut coverage for the aged, blind, disabled, and medically needy. This change means that 15,228 people would lose Medicaid coverage starting January 1, 2015. To make matters worse, the budget also includes a 2% cut to Medicaid providers and terminates the states contract with Community Care of NC to serve the Medicaid population. This week, the NC House has an opportunity to make changes to the Senate budget. Please ask your House member to reject the drastic health care cuts in the Senate budget.
