While Brazil has won the World Cup 2014 and the next Olympics, it has done so at a terrible economic price which it just cannot afford. Billions that should have gone to infrastructure repair and maintenance have been diverted to those two events. Many of the new facilities will not be used for other purposes and will become slums and ghettos. A lot of them already have. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer.
