While EU and US are calculating gains and losses of forthcoming full-scale sanctions that they sure will have to impose on Russia, Putins next approach to gaining control over eastern Ukraine is going to be slightly different from that of the Crimea. It is clear that Russia is not going to deploy its troops in Eastern Ukraine at this point. Rather, it will try to gradually destabilize the situation there through series of carefully planned provocations. This time, instead of sending Russian military, GRU personnel have been deployed for them to provoke violence and sabotage any attempt of Ukrainian authorities to restore order there. Sings of this possible scenario have already emerged in Eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, where a rally of people protesting against Russias annexation of Crimea was attacked by a pro-Russian mob that threw smoke bombs and fire crackers at them, after which fighting erupted.
