While Hull-Aylmer MP, Nycole Turmels Gatineau Park Private Members Bill had some flaws, in terms of not addressing the private property issue inside the park, the Bill would have provided the park with much needed protections, we are disappointed that the House of Commons voted to kill the Bill late yesterday afternoon. Our hope was for this Bill to at least make its way to Committee where amendments could have been brought forward. Where do we go from here? CPAWS Ottawa Valley will continue to work with all parties to ensure legislation is brought forward. The Government promised legislation and we will work to ensure that it is strong enough to protect the parks fragile ecosystems. We are also supportive of a Liberal MPs proposal for a Bill. What can you do? Contact your MP or the office of the Minister responsible for the National Capital Commission (NCC), John Baird, and let them know how you feel about Gatineau Park.
