While I am in the midst of arranging and polishing the songs that will become Letters To Maria(so close and yet so far), I am reminded of a lot that has come before. I cannot deny the impact that both Jet Red albums have had internationally(i.e., hey, I like that record!!) and, well, quite frankly, I am proud of them, thank you very much. Good songs, played with passion. The same goes for my first solo offering, Yeahright, which, to me, was an honest statement both personally and musically. The last album, Whatever, remains a bold musical statement and quite possibly the most ambitious undertaking, albeit an overproduced and somewhat self absorbed homage to various influences over the years. That said, I am also reminded of the innocent beginnings of the Willie Hines Band, a group of musicians who could and would busk on a street corner with just two acoustic guitars, an acoustic bass and some percussion and deliver the goods for hours at no charge, just for the sheer delight in doing so. Now were talking, right?! Why, yes we are, Virginia,..yes we are! Sadly, somehow, that message got lost somewhere along the way, and so, here we are...no, wait,..here I am, and while I would like nothing more than to recapture that moment in time, the songs remains the same, and I look forward to new horizons and, even better, new tunes.
