While I appreciate all of the birthday wishes and deep down, hope that they keep coming until 11:59pm tonight, Id like to draw your attention to a new initiative that my friends and I have launched: Justin Lorenzetti and Bassem ER, Co-Founders of the Young Professionals Development Network (ypdn.ca), initially had a vision to aid new and old graduates alike in their post-undergraduate job hunt. Since YPDNs inception, Katie Morris, Emily Valentini, Kiwi Riddell, Olivia Francesca, Simon Frederic, Sam Hillman, Andrew Shaker, James Edgar Nesbitt and myself have joined the executive committee to further the cause. Throughout university, students become accustomed to a lifestyle where they are constantly surrounded by sources of stimulation in a myriad of social settings, all while being part of a structured program where the end goal is clear - graduation. Post-graduation, these aspects of life become increasingly rare - professors are no longer around to guide you and your friends arent constantly by your side. Therefore, YPDN aims to replicate the sense of community that all recent graduates dearly miss. Our current ventures include planning networking events for young professionals, and raising money for several causes. We also plan on launching a speaker series which will allow young, determined individuals to gain insight from industry leaders. Currently, we have enrolled our team in the SickKids Foundation walkathon and would appreciate any and all donations made in the team name YPDN. A big part of our initiative is giving back to the community, so this is a great place to start. We are brand new at YPDN and, even if youre on the fence about joining, would love to have you to one of our events and hear what you have to say.
