While I certainly agree that the issues we face in our secular society pale in comparison to the atrocities that humans face around the world from oppressive Muslim regimes, that doesnt mean that we cant address all of the issues. We shouldnt have to ignore things which actually impact our lives in the US simply because other people have it worse. To me, Maher is making the classic Hey, at least theyre not Muslims! defense of Christian overreach in the US. Yeah, obviously Islamic extremism is worse than Christians putting up the Ten Commandments at a courthouse or trying to prevent marriage equality, but that doesnt mean we should just accept those, either. To me, this is equivalent to refusing to prosecute someone for theft or battery because we should just focus on prosecuting the murderers.
