While I dont agree that Mr. Garner was executed; he was killed due to the neglect of the officers. I dont even think it was intentional. YES the choke hold may have contributed to it. But when he was talking he was breathing. It seems that what occurred was a panic attack or a heart attack. Considering his weight and size that is highly likely. That being said this man died due to neglect. I am SHOCKED that when they saw that he was unresponsive that they did not take the handcuffs off of him, lay him flat and take his vitals. They ONLY checked his neck. He was a BIG man. As a big man myself I can see how this did NOT allow them to get a clear reading on his pulse. The fact that the put him ON a gurney without putting oxygen on him or doing an EKG indicates that he was dead already. No CPR was EVER administered. I am SHOCKED that the officers were not indicted for at the least involuntary murder or for some kind of neglect. I hope he has family members. This will definitely result in a major lawsuit that NYPD WILL lose. As a white man and as the brother of a dedicated police officer I want to apologize and say sincerely to the African American community that I am sorry for Mr. Garners death. At the very least the officers could have tried harder to save their lives. Instead it appears that they went into save our hides mode. May God bring justice.
