While I dont consider myself necessarily an egalitarian, I ascribe to some basic political tenants. Workers should get paid a fair wage that is sufficient to provide for them and their families, and public services should be readily available to those that need them. Basically we should start everyone on equal footing and provide them with just enough that they may have the opportunity to better themselves and move upward if they are so inclined. We must not however, foster a sense of total complacency, nor should we (or can we) provide citizens with every little thing. A functioning society requires individual input. Keeping the poverty level low, while providing opportunity for upward mobility via individual merit and hard work creates a healthier economy and country. As it stands now, we have folks working multiple jobs, working thier fingers to the bone, still unable to make ends meet. Many of them would become high valuable entrepreneurs ,business people, and leaders if they could just get out of that deep hole that so many of our citizens find themselves in. This, in my view, is unacceptable. Not only do they suffer, but so do the taxpayers. More and more of them need food stamps and such
