While I often comment and post about officers acting inappropriately, this case is not one. She flees not once, but twice, the son attacks the officer and there is nothing in the video that suggests that the other children in the car are hers. If this had been a kidnapping, or human trafficking the officer would have been praised for his actions. The woman driving the car clearly escalated the situation to a dangerous level and the officer could, in fact should have been thinking that she was placing the children in harms way. There is no way to know what the officer shooting was aiming at, tires or mass of van, but if it was the van, hes a horrible shot since he missed the who thing. If the tires, it was a borderline appropriate response to a fleeing suspect with possible hostages. What they did wrong was not block the car in when the back up arrived, but as there was a fight going on, they responded to the threat to the officer rather then the possibility she would flee again. This is not what I would consider a clear cut case of police brutality or overreaction. It is a case of how general citizens are learning to fear the police and I expect we will see more people fleeing the radicalized militarized police that our nations are creating.
