While I think that Tasers (actually the name of a company that has become synonymous with a family of devices that interrupt the electrical signals the brain sends to muscles) and similar devices are worthy defensive tools, as long as the cheap knockoffs are avoided, there have been instances where they fail to subdue an aggressor. There can be several reasons for this, but the key is to have a backup plan. Ive spoken to several people who, for various reasons, feel they couldnt take another human life. That doesnt make them any less worthy of defensive training and ability, but it does limit their available resources. I recommend the models available from Taser (the company, not the cheap knockoffs). Yes, they will cost more than the economy models, but theyre more reliable. Unfortunately, in some states, this tool is regulated as if it were a firearm and its availability, possession and ownership are subject to various requirements. Check your local laws.
