While I was reviewing for the bar in 2013, 73 days before the exam to be exact, I chanced upon an article about Pope Francis and I was moved by his inpiring words: Never yield to discouragement, do not lose trust,do not allow your hope to be extinguished. That day, I vowed that I would find the time to go to Rome, meet Pope Francis, and follow his example. Apparently, I didnt have to go all the way to Europe. Two years after, Pope Francis is here in the Philippines taking the whole country by a storm and inspiring Filipinos to live with mercy and compassion. Yesterday, I was one of the hundreds of people who trooped to Manila Cathedral to hear Pope Francis officiate his first mass. Although I only made it outside the gates of the church and I had to cling to a lamp post for hours, that did not hinder me from being blessed by the whole experience. Even if I only caught a glimpse of the Pope, whats more important is I heard his challenge very clearly: We are called to be ambassadors for Christ by inviting everyone to have a personal encounter with Him. We have to live lives of integrity and build networks of solidarity. Lastly, we have to go back to that daily encounter with the Lord in prayer. Thank you, Pope Francis!
