While Ill always love my country, Im afraid today is the end of the citizen legislator that our founding fathers envisioned would lead our nation. Instead of fine men and women who come from all walks of life and having the aspiration to get on the ballot all having an equal opportunity, this ruling will further allow our state and federal offices to be bought and sold like any other commodity. Money is the lifeblood of a political campaign, and weve already witnessed record after record shattered as the well-connected in both parties gain the necessary name recognition to garner more and more money to advertise even more. Corporations, unions, pacs, superpacs, wealthy corporate barons and left wing movie stars and performers all have had the upper hand, buying access to those who can do nothing but owe them due to their addiction to their cash. The media is absolutely complicit - they profit handsomely from ever-increasing ad and marketing budgets. The average citizen, with pure heart, average mentality, ear and heart for the people, and the backbone to run against the green tide of greed and unchecked power will, I fear, never again have a chance. The freedom of speech should never be controlled in volume by the amount of money one can put on the knob.
