While Im glad that Ohios minimum wage is indexed to inflation, lets be honest with ourselves that the floor started too low, and that bringing home just a little over $16,000 a year is not a living wage. Despite the mythology that some wish to perpetuate, in a post-recession economy that has seen an increase in low-wage jobs, the more than 250,000 Ohio workers who earn the minimum wage arent just high schoolers working summer jobs; its also a whole lot of folks trying to support families, too. Citizens across the country have overwhelmingly approved minimum wage increases because they know that a hard days work deserves a fair paycheck.
