While MPD Officers were investigating a traffic collision on 4th Street near Pine Street this morning, 8 people drove around the police vehicles (which had the emergency lights activated) that were blocking the lane to keep the collision scene safe. These drivers made the scene exponentially more dangerous for the people involved in the collision, the officer investigating the collision and the tow truck drivers trying to clear up the roadway. Please remember that when an officer has their vehicle blocking the road it is for safety reasons. Sometimes it is to keep the approaching driver and vehicle safe from what is ahead, and other times it is to keep scene of a collision or other incident safe for the investigation. We realize that having a road closed to traffic is inconvenient, but please understand that we strive to investigate every incident as thoroughly as possible. Rest assured that we make every effort to open the road as soon as safely possible. TB
