While at the orphanage yesterday, one of the girls (Kadiatu) - TopicsExpress

While at the orphanage yesterday, one of the girls (Kadiatu) asked, Chance, what is your house like in America? Embarrassment. Shame. Those are just a couple of the emotions I felt as I tried to formulate an answer. What would I say to her? Before I responded, I looked behind her to see the 500 square foot home that she and 9 other girls live in. I thought about the shower (thats really a small shed) that she and her orphan brothers and sisters bathe in. I thought about the bathroom she shares with 23 other children, thats no more than a lean-to shed, made from concrete blocks with a hole in the ground. Then, I thought about my house: Nineteen hundred square feet. Running water. Two sinks. Two toilets. Electricity in every room. I was sick. How do I LITERALLY look the least of these in the eye and say that I live in a mansion?
