While attending a childs birthday party at a childrens fun place - TopicsExpress

While attending a childs birthday party at a childrens fun place in Lexington, two five year boys, one black one white, get into a small skirmish while jumping in an unsupervised inflatable. The parents separate the youth and the grandparent of the white child goes to the locations management demanding immediate action against the black child and requesting the police be called. Rather than defuse the situation between to uninjured children, management tries to honor the request of the grandparent. The manager goes to the black mother demanding that she give her personal information for legal and insurance purposes to give to the white grandparent and give to law enforcement. The manager becomes irate when the mother refuses citing that she sees no reason to give her information when the white childs family information is not being collected. Becoming infuriated with the issue at hand, I stepped over and asked the manager for the policy that states this situation be handled in this manner. The manager gets upset and walks away with the grandparent still threatening to call law enforcement. Law enforcement was never contacted (or they never arrived). My two cents... What I witnessed today is the same fuel that sparks another Michael Brown or Travyon Martin incident. A white person immediately believing that there is guilt or malicious intentions of a black male without any proof or reasoning. In this incident the two youth have immediately moved past the skirmish to resume playing while the grandparent genuinely believed that a FIVE year old black male should be arrested by law enforcement. Removing race from the issue, WHEN should the police be called to apprehend a five year old in a small skirmish? Some, and I do mean a certain population of America, see black males as the scourge of America void of any capability of being productive members of our society. They see black people as the pit bulls of the human race; dangerous and deadly without proper training. Refusal to address the disparities in race in America and refusal to acknowledge that there is this undercurrent thought process in America only perpetuates stereotypes and will only widen the gap between races and cultures. America is a melting pot, an experimental society of MANY to make one great nation. And while there have been many great things from our blended society, there is so much more that can be gained by us recognizing our differences to eliminate prejudices!
