While creating a logic or building an argument, we normally reason - TopicsExpress

While creating a logic or building an argument, we normally reason out with our thinking of linearity, it comes out so naturally to us. We expectedly extend our argument that if ‘x’ is good to have then having more of it automatically shall provide more goodness. Or if ‘x’ is good for me it is good for everyone else too. But unfortunately in the real world most of the things don’t work on the principle of linearity. We know it very well that many other variables can make this into nonlinear curve of any shape and type. Even in simple mathematics when we talk about a x b = b x a we don’t and can’t mean in real life that six set of two things are same as two set of six things. What is good or bad for one individual, group, society or nation (other than universal values, principles and nature’s laws) need not necessarily be good or bad to respective others or at least not with the same degree or intensity. This may be true with ideologies, technologies, economic policies, political systems, governance models, or developmental plan etc. Economist know it very well that the deciding factor is identifying this unique curve and point at which one is placed in this curve and then finding the optimal solution based on that; in the form of a most appropriate model. Ability to predict or assess with reasonable accuracy about the nature of this curve and exact position on that curve at some point of time is exactly the expertise we require to have with our policy makers. Thus it is not only important to have general and specialized expertise of one subject or area but also ability to find effect of many other factors and variables arising out from many other areas, and suitably modify model accordingly. Ability of accommodation and suitable extrapolation in the light of various impacting factors and providing unique solution as per the context is the true ability of an expert. In our case the vastness and multiplicity of diversity makes it further complicated. Giving examples of other countries or trying to exactly copy their model in any area may not provide optimal solution in our case--- whether economic or social or political. We can always learn from their experiences, but solution is always unique for everyone whether individual or nation.
