While doing some maintenance work on the websites Ive been listening to The Australians Paul Kelly speaking at the opening of the University College of Dublins Australian Studies Centre last November. youtube/watch?v=8EsgVb-rutY The speech itself is fairly turgid with some real howlers – and one hopes the Irish academics dont take this mans historical claims too seriously when studying Australian history – but its an interesting insight into the mindset of the Old White Men who control Australias political, business and media institutions. Id recommend having a listen, particularly to the last five minutes where Kelly lays out how the Abbott government wants history to see it. Thats probably essential listening if you want to understand the thought processes behind the governments decisions and the thundering editorials of its house journal, The Australian.
