While down in Iceland this morning, the girl serving me, who knew I was a childminder from going in everyone other week asked me if the food I bought was for the children I care for. When I told her yes and gave her examples of lunches I include in my fees, she said the families who use me were very lucky as she has a childminder but has to make up lunches for her little one after she gets home at 7pm for the next day etc. When I told her that I supply nappies etc too and can do pickups and drops off from home, she told me she has a 30 minute walk to drop off her little one and another 30 minute walk for the pickup as her childminder doesnt drive. Its conversations like this that emphasise what I already knew, that I provide value for money with my service as I only charge 20p more per hour than the other childminder and often go above and beyond to meet the needs of the families who use my service. She also asked me if I had a waiting list which I said yes, for certain days...x
