While fast forwarding through the August 1957 Bangor Daily News - TopicsExpress

While fast forwarding through the August 1957 Bangor Daily News microfilm this ad jumped out at me. Back in the days before Home Depot, Lowes, Best Buy and other big box retailers began to dominate the landscape of this country most folks shopped local. In fact, most towns, including the Slate Belt had retailers and services that filled most every need of area residents. Among those retailers familiar to most Slate Belt baby boomers (and others) were appliance dealers such as B&B Appliance in Bangor, Fedons Electric in Pen Argyl and Im sure at least one in Wind Gap I am forgetting. If you were in the market for a new washing machine in 1957 you could purchase the #1 rated Frigidaire washing machine for $229.95. And if it failed you could get service from the store. And, as noted in the bottom of the ad, the stores were open every night, even on Upper Market St. If you would like to give them a call, pick up the phone and ask the operator for Bangor 545. Oh, never mind, that wont work!
