While i do not in any way fault the judgment of the Court of Appeal or friends and relations who rejoiced at Al Mustapha‘s acquittal,i am perplexed at the reaction of many who have interpreted it on tribal and religious angle already. I make haste to admonish those people to take a deep breath and ponder on some deep thoughts. What does the common man from the north stand to gain from Al Mustapha‘s release. Without meaning to be harsh or unkind to him,i think Al Mustapha have no direct imput on the poor man in the street in Kano his home town,Maiduguri or Kaduna. While all was well,he wined and dined with the high and mighty. He was the most fearful man apart from Late General Sani Abacha. Even though a Major,he was feared by his seniors as his name evoked fears at close quarters. His detention and long trial was part of high level political gladiatorship and manouvre between the elitist north and south. There are theories that he made Abdulsalami head of state instead of Jeremiah Useni. His release is no less controversial as many are seeing it as a pacification of the north towards 2015. Others see it as a way of breaking the emergence of a one block vote from the opposition North. Whatever it may be,Al Mustapha is not the representative of the hungry and impoverished masses from the north and the sooner they realize this, the better. He came out from Kirikiri, went to the controversial TB Joshua, and was subsequently escorted by the high and mighty including OPC Leader Fredrick Fasheun, in a chartered plane from Lagos to Kano.Whatever the circumstances sorrounding his freedom may be,it is another victory for the thieving elites as he had lived a life oppressing the people.
