While in the Bay of Islands and writing the "Tales of Eldorado" Zane Grey leased the famous game fishing launch "Alma G" She was built in 1923 as a whale chasing boat. Zane Grey used her as his Game Fishing Launch over a few seasons around 1926 when he wrote the book. He won numerous World Records in game fishing which are still in place today. Visit the Russell Sword Fishing Club to see the original wall plaques showing many record catches of Zane Grey partnered with Alma G.
