While it can vary from each training installation, the use of cell phones during Basic Training is a privilege, and commanders will establish local policy as to their use by their Soldiers. If your Soldier takes a cell phone with them, it will be stored until they receive phone privileges from their Unit Commander, generally at graduation from Basic Training and/or start of AIT.
