While many will be in the comfort of their own homes preparing a Thanksgiving feast for their families, there will be many generous volunteers serving food to other families throughout the county. Tuesday St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 375 E. Main Street, will hold their monthly community dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This is open to the public. Wednesday Shepherd of the Valley Shepherd of the Valley United Brethren Church will hold its free Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. This is the fifth year the church has offered a free holiday meal to the community. “This is something God wants us to do,” explained Clarence Wright. The church will be serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal complete with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, rolls, and desserts that will be prepared by the church congregation. This year will be a little different as in the past, as there will only be home deliveries to those who have a disability. Shepherd of the Valley United Brethren Church is located at 297 Riff Street, two blocks from Burger King. M&M Family Diner M&M Family Diner also will host a free Thanksgiving dinner to the community on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. “This is for everyone,” said owner, Michelle Bourne. “We are offering this to the public to show our appreciation for all the support from the community throughout the year.” Bourne also will offer a traditional meal, including turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, noodles, green beans, rolls, pie, and coffee or tea. “It’s all about coming together for the holiday,” Bourne added. Donations will be accepted, with the proceeds to benefit Hocking Hills Inspire Shelter. M&M Family Diner is located at 34 W. Main Street. Antioch Alliance Church The Antioch Alliance Church also will host a community Thanksgiving meal at 7 p.m. The church is located at 11947 Antioch Road. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day The Max Bar & Grill The Max Bar & Grill is hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner for the community beginning at 3 p.m. Employees of the bar will be serving a traditional holiday dinner with turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls and all the trimmings to make this a festive meal. At 8 p.m., Rick Wolfe will entertain those attending with music. The Max Bar & Grill is located at 922 W. Hunter Street. The Home Tavern For more than 10 years, Chuck and Nancy Hopkins, owners of the Home Tavern, have been contributing to the community and helping others who are less fortunate. Every year the Hopkins hosts a Thanksgiving dinner for the community and help raise money for Toys to Share. “This is our way of giving back to the community,” Chuck said. “Some people don’t have any family or any place to go on the holiday, so we just do this dinner for anyone who wants to come in.” Donations are welcome, but not necessary. All funds collected benefit the yearly Toys to Share program. Those attending will feast on turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and all the trimmings to make a delicious Thanksgiving meal. The meal will be served at approximately noon and will continue until the food is gone. The Home Tavern is located at 363 Gallagher Ave., Logan. Fraunfelter/Conner families This will be the second annual Fraunfelter/Conner community Thanksgiving dinner. Last year more than 220 dinners were served at Fraun’s Service Garage, and it was so successful that they needed to find a larger building in order to accommodate everyone. This year’s event will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church from noon to 2:30 p.m., with turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, noodles, veggies, coleslaw, rolls and desserts served. The goal is to bring the community together, be festive, give thanks and give back to the community. “People shouldn’t be alone on the holiday,” said Keith Conner, one of the event organizers. “This is a chance for the community to come together, have dinner, fellowship and a festive time.” The dinner is free to anyone who attends, but Conner is asking for those attending to call ahead of time so they have an idea of how many people to expect. To donate your time, food, or if you plan on attending, contact Conner at 740-591-3020. St. Matthew Lutheran Church is located at 258 E. Hunter Street. New Hope UMC New Hope United Methodist Church will host its second free Thanksgiving meal, with turkey and all the trimmings. Pastor Charles Eagle said there will be mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, desserts and everything that is needed to make a complete dinner. The free dinner is open to the public and begins at 1 p.m. at the church located at 9825 Gore Church Road (state Route 93 North). While many may have forgotten the true meaning of Thanksgiving, these organizations, churches, businesses and good people have joined forces to bring back the traditional holiday to its historical roots.
