While no one has verified its authenticity, the video is a horrific reminder of what children face in the brutal Syrian war. About 11,000 children have died in the three years since the civil war started in country. And while we often hear that these children died from attacks, airstrikes, and bombings — the United Nations children’s agency reports that the first nine months of 2014 saw at least 35 attacks on schools that have killed 105 children — these children are also often targeted by snipers. According to the Global Post, nearly 400 children under 17 have died in the war-torn country from sniper fire between March 2011 and August 2013. These children have already been through so much and while some were able to get away from the conflict, others are left to face the reality that in order to stay alive they’d have to dodge bullets fired at them. ryot.org/young-syrian-boy-hero-save-friend-sniper-fire/865053
