While on a early morning bus an elderly man sat beside me. We - TopicsExpress

While on a early morning bus an elderly man sat beside me. We exchanged nods of acknowledgment, nothing more. He looked refreshed, awake contrary to the red-eyed sleepy face which I was sporting (was not my fault, have been awake since 4 in the morning). I could tell from his demeanor that he was a fisherman, perhaps making his way to his catchment area. It must have been 10 minutes into our ride when he silently asked navy??. Woken up, I whispered yes. The haircut has always been an easy giveaway. Straightening myself up I attempted to confirm my initial assumptions about he being a fisherman. Well, he was indeed one heading towards the busy main market to go about his daily business. We talked and talked, his humility and honesty surprised me. His admiration and adoration for Faujis was remarkable. He made me feel immensely proud of what we do. The two hours journey flew by in a flicker. He was a kind man, I thought. At the destination bus stop, I offered him a cup of tea; he was in a hurry. He blatantly refused, instead he went ahead and paid the vendor for my cup with the only 20 rupees he had in his pocket. I refused, he asserted that we would have enough money by the end of the day. He said one of you saved my life some 20 years back while I was drowning, this is the least I can do for you!! This was, perhaps, the best cup of tea I ever had in my entire life.
