While on the subject of how to heat your natural home, here are some photos of a double-wall cordwood home in Kenai, Alaska by Chelsea and Mark. The heat is supplied by a super efficient wood stove. The double wall cavity is filled with soy-based Deltic foam and offers an R-value of R 7 per inch, so 6 inches = R 42. This type of double wall is detailed in the book Cordwood Construction Best Practices. cordwoodconstruction.org Note the stove pipe it is a 6 well casing. The stone and bottles are on the interior double wall so they do not offer a thermal nose bleed. My favorite picture of Mark & Chelsea is the one where they are holding links of moose sausage in a recycling of the beast that ate the garden. cordwoodconstruction.wordpress/2013/02/07/cordwood-in-kenai-alaska-2/ The original building photos are from The Cordwood Conference Papers 2011 at the University of Manitoba.
