While packing up some of my familys Civil War era possessions, I - TopicsExpress

While packing up some of my familys Civil War era possessions, I came across this original (1879) Services book for use by the Grand Army of the Republic. The GAR was the fraternal organization that Union veterans belonged to after the Civil War. My great-great grandfather George Washington Meals of the 4th United States Artillery was a member of the GAR and this was his book. The GAR eventually became the Sons of Union Veterans once the last actual Union veteran died so their legacy could be carried on by their male descendants. I am a proud member of the Taylor-Wilson Camp #10 SUVCW in Lynchburg, VA as a result of my grandfathers service to the Union in the 1860s, along with his two older brothers, William Benjamin Meals and Joseph Meals.
