While playing on a gig today of three hour duration (with Rich Greenblatt and Dave Landoni) for the last hour my playing entered a new zone. It was everything Id always been trying to do. Well, close to it. Ive been in this zone before a handful of times. Its as if something beautiful that I had forgotten even existed suddenly appeared and eclipsed all other stimuli. There was no one in the joint. Literally, no one. So one could ask, did it even happen? OTOH, if there had been people there, they would have been eating and talking and only peripherally aware that someone was playing music, which would have been, talk about slippage/compromise of success, a case of being poorly equipped for a task while not even really trying to do it either. So I guess the question is moot.
