While preparing and filming PSYCHO, Alfred Hitchcock came to trust Anthony Perkins intelligence, instinct and sardonic sense of humor. Some believe Perkins floated the idea that, at some point during the movie, Norman would whistle or sing under his breath a familiar song with a Mother theme and that, to promote PSYCHO, Perkins would later record a pop version of whatever tune was chosen, such as this one from 1911. According to those who believe the tale, Perkins suggested a couple of different tunes only for Hitchcock to nix the idea as unsubtle and too much. What do you think?
