While rain in Maine is likely on your brain, here at #UNE were buzzing with activity as we prepare to host the 1st Annual Southern Maine Brain Bee on our Biddeford Campus tomorrow. The purpose of the competition and learning event is to motivate high school students to pursue careers in neuroscience, helping to treat and find cures for neurological and psychological disorders. In addition to the competition itself, other activities for the day include viewing human brain tissue, sheep brain dissections, microscope work and a campus tour. Were hosting the Brain Bee to help support STEM education in our neighboring school districts. The enthusiasm and dedication these students show for the competition is amazing, and the amount of time students are spending outside the classroom to prepare for the Brain Bee is quite impressive! The Southern Maine Brain Bee will be held simultaneously with the Northern Maine Brain Bee and the Western Maine Brain Bee. The winner of the event will be eligible to participate in the national competition in March 2015, leading up to the International Brain Bee Championship held in Washington, D.C. Good luck students!
