While reading an article at tripoto by a Costa Rica traveller about her trip to India, I came across the below #tip she wrote in her article Tip # 7. Guys may touch your breast with their elbows. Watch out! In fact, it was not until I sat down to write this that I confirmed it, meanwhile I was reviewing some other articles from solo female travelers in India to be sure to contribute as much as I could. At that time, I had doubts because it seemed such a bizarre way to touch me that I didn’t know how to react. But some of them may touch you in that way. Watch out! Reading these words nauseated me! Yes, its not a norm to touch a women inappropriately, but in India, we re so used to it that after a certain age, females learn to try n protect selves. Pulling thr handbags in front of them, keepin shoulder bags on front side instead of back, try to cover with a file, folder, a notebook or whatever they might be carrying with themselves. Why cant a lady walk down or stand in a bus, a train without keeping an extra barrier!? Why at the age of thirteen, she has to go through trauma of being pinched, groped, touched, when she doesnt even know how to react or what to do! Only to learn in later years that she has to protect herself with such barriers? Only learn to adjust with the ongoing dirty things, get used to it or jus struggle to avoid it! We need to raise our voices, a huge, collective, loud cry against it! Grab that guy, slap him hard, punch him. Be it bus, train, get him to the police station! Every lady in any city, Delhi Jaipur, Mumbai or lucknow, lets not let this be a norm! Lets educate those savage males who dont know how to give someone her space, beat the hell out of them, so no guy in our country dares to do such acts which has become a norm to them, and surprisingly, to us! Let alone these expats taking such stories back their land, I dont want my daughter to grow with this! I dont want to have to teach her to keep that textbook in front of her while she is walking! That one is to read!! We have to decide how are angels b treated in our own country.
