While returning from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, I stopped at a kiosk - TopicsExpress

While returning from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, I stopped at a kiosk to have a cup of tea. There I noticed a young man, hardly 30. He came on a motorcycle and ordered a cup of tea. He was handsome and well-dressed. After tea, he asked for a particular brand of cigarette and paid Rs 8 for it. Then he leaned against the motor cycle and started smoking in style. I noticed my initials AJ on the number plate. I approached him and asked whether I could speak to him for two minutes. Why not? he answered. I told him that it was my initials on his number plate that encouraged me to speak to him. I told him that I was a chain smoker and gave it up about 23 years ago. I also told him that health-wise and money-wise, it helped me a lot. He told me that I was the first stranger to advise him and he would try to quit smoking. He did not take a single puff in front of me and threw away the cigarette. I do not know whether he would stick to his word but he thanked me before saying Good Night and speeding away. I hope my effort was not in vain.
