While the City of Forth Walton Beach has thus far experienced no sewer breaks or pump station failures, officials with the Engineering & Utility Services department have detected several sanitary sewer overflows. When excessive amounts of rainfall cause the waste water collection system to exceed capacity, the overflow may spill into the storm drains and eventually enter neighboring bodies of water. As of April 30, sewage system overflow has been detected in areas that will affect the following bodies of water: Santa Rosa Sound, Cinco Bayou, Choctawhatchee Bay, Gap Creek and Lake Earl. FWB staff are monitoring the overflow and are working as quickly as possible toward community and environmental restoration.
