While the commentary, mentioned in the below link (provided by Tom Kindlon via Co-cure), is interesting, it needs to be remembered that Friedberg is a supporter of psychogenic explanations for illnesses such as fibromyalgia and ME/CFS. In his book, Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome:Seven Proven Steps to Less Pain And More Energy (Oakland: New Harbinger Publications, 2006) he alleges a critic of psychogenic explanations of CFS as being: beholden to a rigid mind-body dualism - so much that I would suspect she would never support a role for psychological factors in CFS, no matter what the evidence. His premise is actually that physiological abnormalities found in CFS/ME are not enough to ‘fully’ explain ‘CFS/ME’, and that therefore, there is at least a partial psychogenic explanation for the condition (page 16 and passim). In his commentary distributed via Co-cure, he and his co-author argue that The lack of available behavioural treatment for most patients with CFS indicates that the recovery emphasis in this paper has little real-life impact on patient quality of life beyond the research setting. This is not necessarily a criticism of CBT/GET and psychogenic explanations for this illness, but appears more a call for more research on these treatments: medicine.stonybrookmedicine.edu/psychiatry/news/friedberg_commentary
