While the entire trip to Malawi with 20 incredible women was outstanding, the most personally fulfilling part was spending time at a medical center installing lighting and completing a brick building which will give the facility a place indoors to cook food for over 200 people that come to this facility (yes, they have been cooking all meals outdoors over camp fires). I watched everyone on this journey meet whatever moment was thrown at them with complete grace. We all got to feel as though our presence here made a difference, less over what we accomplished (although providing light to the room where surgeries are performed was fulfilling) and more because we had the opportunity to spend quality time being together with people on the other side of our world. With the donations we gathered well be purchasing an ambulance for them since what theyve been using is a sort of motorcycle with seat attached (picture below). They have desperately needed it and it will save lives. Im so very moved by the strength and courage of this group -and the friendships formed. This story is far from over. Am off to Kenya for time with animals and no electricity for a couple of days.
