While the film Star Wars is commonly lauded for it’s state of the art special effects, it’s amazing cast, and it’s heart stopping action, few seem to notice how this film also presented to us a society where there was almost no discrimination. All these different species from all these different planets treat each other no differently than they would other people. This aspect of the movie can especially be seen in the iconic Cantina scene. Through this, we see a diverse cast of aliens, openly drinking with and conversing with each other. There is little to no indication of any bad blood or vendettas against each other’s race. With the few disputes being those from bounty hunters, from personal affronts, and for service towards droids who, with the amount of circuitry in their body, would not be able to drink anyway. If the characters from this film managed to do this, as the film states, “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away”, who says that we, the characters of our own personal sagas and adventures ,can’t?
