While the language is coarse, this is spot on. Too often we see law enforcement and public safety as a whole painted negatively because it doesnt meet the ratings or political agenda of those who seek to divide us. In Tallahassee, way too close to little old Tifton, firefighters, EMTs, and LEOs were fired upon by a crazed man who set his house on fire and waited for public safety to do their jobs. Two deputies died. Two families without a husband or a father now. In Forsyth, a suicidal man shot Michael Norris and his partner, and lived to tell the story. Deputy Norris was taken off life support recently, and a final act of valor, shared his organs with those in need. All the media and Reverend Al Sharpton can say is I cant breathe and Hands up, Dont shoot. The reality is every time these guys step out, taking a report, or working a sector in a patrol car, handling paperwork like the two NYPD officers, their lives are endangered. Not because of any individual act by that officer, but because he went to roll call, took his briefing and went out to help people. While the situations in NYC and Ferguson were awful, both could have been prevented with one simple rule. OBEY the LAW. Remember that tonight, as you sleep, officers like Jody Abad, Michael Gaskins, Steven Laska, Toni Gann, Wingate Whitley and others are working to keep you safe. Firefighters and EMTS are waiting and ready too. They dont get Christmas off, they dont get new years off, and everytime you get caught up in this media hype, remember this. These folks are all human, and they all want to go home with ten fingers and ten toes and hug those that matter to them. Thank them for what they do.
