While the tech nerds in San Jose will claim this is a great thing - I dont think so. I think the growing reliance of Americans on sources of information that arent accountable to the public is a major problem. It goes beyond foreign policy to domestic policy - how can we trust the information we get if we dont know the reporter is (so we can hold them responsible for the accuracy of what they report) and no agency takes editorial responsibility for what they say? How do we trust information from independent reporters when they arent required to fact-check their stories before they post them (and worse, choose to post them in twitter feeds with no editor around to fact-check the assertions, first)? Call me crazy, but Ill take the mainstream media and its subtle biases over what weve seen coming from questionable sources showing up on FB threads, any day of the week. Sometimes, Indy isnt cool at all.
