While the temperature today may not exactly feel like spring, the season of budding trees and flowers is coming soon — it’s just one week away, to be exact. To welcome the season, the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival returns on Wednesday, April 2 and brings nearly two weeks of programming to Philadelphia — through Sunday, April 13. Over the course of the festival, look forward to culinary events, workshops, film screenings, performances and more that all promote Japanese culture. The festival debuts with a karaoke kick-off at Yakitori Boy that is set to provide guests with plenty of sushi, yakitori, drinks and karaoke on April 2. Also be sure to make your calendar for Dine Out Japan restaurant week from April 6 to 10, an opportunity to sample fare at a number of the city’s Japanese restaurants on the cheap — $20 for lunch and $35 for dinner. The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival closes with its centerpiece event, the Sakura Sunday celebration on Sunday, April 13. The event celebrates Japanese culture through music, performances, demonstrations, contests, crafts and more underneath hundreds of cherry blossom trees at Fairmount Park’s Horticulture Center. Presented by the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, the festival aims to teach the public about Japanese culture through a slew of family-friendly events across the Philadelphia region.
