While they may not pass an optician’s chart test any time soon, sea stars have better vision than was previously thought, according to a new study published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B. With their eyes—located at the tips of their arms—blue sea stars (Linckia laevigata)—can see images at about 200 pixels, according to the researchers. The blue sea star depends on coral reefs in the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans. If it wanders too far, it may not be able to find food or shelter, so its ability to see the reef is critica
