While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. She - TopicsExpress

While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger, because there was no room in the hostel. There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:6-12 MSG) Strange events were about on the day that Jesus was born. A baby not being born in the comfort of his own home, not even in a room where relatives and cousins might be. Shepherds hearing and seeing something other than stars glittering and a soft breeze rustling tree leaves. I read a commentary of this pronouncement compared to that of Caesar Augustus at the same time. Both are proclaimed Lord, Son of God, Savior, Bringer of Peace to the Whole World. The commenter notes that Caesars peace is through violent conquest - Jesus peace is through nonviolent justice. I listened again to Linus telling Charlie Brown what Christmas is all about, and the peaceful simplicity of that telling rings true. When the craziness of the world clangs around me, may I take a deep breath and be transformed by Jesus way of life! Lord, how I thank for the birth of this child! Allow his nonviolent justice to be my guide and stay, and for Christ to be my Savior today! https://m.youtube/watch?v=DKk9rv2hUfA
