While this is not the time or place for details, the allegations - TopicsExpress

While this is not the time or place for details, the allegations against me are wrong. Some of the “facts” alleged are twisted and misleading while others are outright false. Thanks to all of you who have offered your support. The phone calls, the texts and messages mean more than you know. I never planned to get into politics but when Solicitor Hoisington died, I felt duty bound to take the reins. I truly believed that I was the best person to lead the office through the grieving process and forward to new accomplishments. I knew what getting into politics would mean. I knew what leading a team of prosecutors in the 21st century would bring. Prosecutors and law enforcement are repeatedly unfairly criticized and insulted by those seeking to undermine the criminal justice system-- not just here but everywhere. While these are not new tactics, they have never been more popular and more public than they are today. Knowing ALL these things, I STILL signed up! And I signed up because I knew I could do the job and do it well. You elected me to stand strong and to stay true in protecting our community. I have done just that. Part of my job is to listen to criticisms, investigate their validity and take action if necessary. Ive never shied away from this responsibility just as I have never cowered out of fear of unfair attacks-- which have become just part of being a prosecutor. KNOW THIS: We will not be tentative in the face of these attacks. We will continue to seek justice through vigorous enforcement of the law in a fair, honest and efficient manner. We take great pride in the policies and procedures that we have established to train our lawyers about their legal and ethical responsibilities. I have provided nearly 40% more training than the bar requires on both ethical and legal matters. Of course, we have made (and may make) mistakes in the heat of battle. When this happens, however, we take actions to correct our errors and to see that justice is done. My prosecutors have earned my loyalty and support. They know that they can count on me to stand up for them, but understand that I will have a firm, measured response to any disciplinary issues that arise. On a separate but related note, I have had the pleasure of working with the Berkeley and Charleston County bars for quite sometime now. We sometimes have heated disagreements-- but we are supposed to. Often, we just have to agree to disagree and let the courts decide our issues. That is what the practice and profession of law is all about. I am privileged to work with such a great group of people and I am grateful for their support. Representing the State of South Carolina is an experience that carries with it feelings of pride and humility, to say nothing of awesome responsibility. We all appreciate your support in our mission.
