While this is the kind of marketing that will only work a few times, I think this is rather brilliant. Instead of trying to find a record label and a deal, Wu-Tang Clan is selling a single copy of the album as a gorgeous and tricked out piece of art after having listening parties and showing it in galleries. Then the buyer can release the album if they want. My bet is that the band will earn more from this approach than through any other method, though they will almost certainly get brought to us by Golden Palace or a global tycoon who has always dreamed of making a splash in music.
