While this may be controversial to some, I believe that we are addictive beings – us human beings – and that addiction often is rooted in, and perpetuated by, both the problem-focused, anxiety-based and reactive Victim Orientation and the Dreaded Drama Triangle roles of Victim, Persecutor and Rescuer. The addiction serves as a “Rescuer,” which helps the Victim numb out or distance from their feelings of powerlessness in the face of the challenges (i.e. Persecutors) of life.
