While traveling through the countryside tonight I found myself miles from any city or town. As the cloak of darkness was pulled round the shoulders of the sky the stars seemed so amazingly brilliant and bright, so much more so than when the ambient lights of cities diminish their beauty. I began to think of how fortunate I am to find a place away from those lights where I could see the universe with greater clarity. There are so many times in this life when I need to just step aside from the hurried world that scurries to meet deadlines and pay bills, and to impress others rather than to just be and accept what and who we are a part of. It’s during those times alone that an uncluttered life promotes an uncluttered mind. It’s when I speak to God and quietly wait for His response. With all of the comforts this life can afford, even the comfort of another’s arms fail in comparison to how I feel when held in the silence of a moment with God. I gaze at the wonders of creation and think of all the other eyes that have beheld these things through the ages. I listen intently for the voices that have gone before that question if there is something more than what we simply make of life. That something, that being that makes me feel wholly and holy in a way that nothing else can is my Father, my creator God who gives his humble servant the gift of recognizing his whispering voice.
