While visiting Belum-Temengor rainforest reserve last week, Prime Minister Najib Razak noted it the forest which three times the size of Singapore and roughly 130 million years old should seek listing as a UNESCO Heritage site. With Malaysia’s total forest cover currently standing at 62%, it is clear that the country has become a true example of sustainable development, striking the right balance between economic growth and commitment to the environment. #Palmoil has enabled this balance, driving prosperity and the ability to preserve more land. Environmental groups like Greenpeace International, The Forest Trust and WWF cannot ignore these truths and their suggestion that Malaysia is not committed to responsible development is an attack on Malaysian national interests.
