While waiting to have lunch with a new member of our community, I - TopicsExpress

While waiting to have lunch with a new member of our community, I sat in a crowded courtyard and watched many people reunite with someone they love. I saw friends, siblings, lovers, parents and grandparents all sitting in the sunny California weather enjoying each others company. As I waited for the newly widowed person I was meeting, I thought about how painful witnessing reunions of loved ones used to be for me in those early years of grief. I can so clearly recall tears running down my cheeks when watching one particular couple...a man waiting to meet his wife for lunch. The sweet way they greeted each other, and their obvious comfort in each others company created a physical ache in my body. Phil and I used to meet for lunch at least once a week, and my heart was crushed witnessing someone elses happiness, while knowing that Id never meet Phil for lunch again. My heart literally ached, and I could hardly stand in one place. I am sharing this to assure those of you who are witnessing the holiday reunions that are so common this time of year, no matter how you may try to hide from them. I want you to know that you are not a bad person. I want you to know that you WILL one day be able to witness others joy without experiencing searing pain. I want you to know that you are not alone.
