While, we are all pretending that all is well for the rest of the country except the new Caliphate under the insurgents, it is necessary to raise a number of issues that may alter the balance further. 1) The insurgents are deepening their ideological war on the captured territories promising Muslims that they have Gods mandate to establish a purely Islamic community. And to drive home their point, they claim that God sends Angels to support them hence a few of them succeed in driving away thousands of soldiers. This is dangerous and could be used to indoctrinate many youth who may be difficult to reverse even when we succeed in dislodging the insurgents. 2) The insurgents are on a fierce recruitment drive among local communities. Even if the insurgency ends, those recruited within communities will just melt back within their communities with their arms and ammunitions. They will therefore constitute a new security threat within communities. 3) The insurgents are now applying the Robin Hood philosophy of breaking shops to distribute the essential items and foodstuffs to poor people and reminding the people that they will guarantee a just and egalitarian society as opposed to the unjust Nigerian Government. 4) There is a need to consider the losses in harvests for this year. All the communities taken over or sent parking were in the process of harvesting their crops. Even when the crisis is over, we shall have to cope with the food crisis that will accompany the crisis. If they are allowed to consolidate further, they are likely going to recruit many hungry, jobless and despondent youth fully trained and indoctrinated who may serve as the new army that will go to other places as both fighters and suicide bombers. The earlier they are dislodged the better. Who will solve this problem? With the continued silence from the Nigerian authorities, and the fact that no territory has been recovered so far, is there an end in sight?
